Embedding sustainability in business strategy and decisions
A North American power company sought to assess sustainability-related risk and to forecast the impacts of climate change and other factors on a routine basis by integrating scenario planning into their business strategy and decisions, including investor and employee sustainability drivers. ALO is leading the development of this process, including the tools and methodologies to help executive leadership integrate these sustainability concepts into business and financial forecasting models, and to present these results to their Board of Directors on an ongoing basis.
Catalyzing a more sustainable supply base
A client needed to understand and manage important water security risks and opportunities across their agricultural commodity and operating supply chain. We collected and analyzed data from more than 100 company facilities and suppliers worldwide. This involved engaging with our client’s facilities and key suppliers to identify current and future water-related risks. We also sought to identify priority “hotspots” where our client plans to target environmental improvements such as modernizing agricultural practices to reduce water use and improve groundwater recharge. This will enable our client to build greater sustainability and resilience into their supply chain, today and long into the future.
Facilitating a new approach to addressing plastic waste
ALO assisted a large consumer products company in assembling and facilitating a panel of global experts to test and validate the company’s evolving strategy for addressing plastic packaging waste. With expert input from academia, NGOs, multilateral finance institutions, and other private enterprises, the company has refined its approach, built new tools, and is continuing work to harness the power of advanced technologies/techniques in their unique approach to tackling this major sustainability challenge.
Transforming a global environmental, health and safety program
For a Fortune-500 global manufacturer, ALO led a large-scale, enterprise-wide transformation program to improve EHS performance. In collaboration with operations and company leaders, ALO developed and is helping implement a strategy that identifies key challenges and formulates ways to navigate/overcome these obstacles. Solutions deployed include goal articulation, progress measurement, installation of diagnostic/remedy processes along data aggregation for new insights, and better, more informed leadership decision-making.
Supporting the integration of a global occupational health program
For a global consumer goods client, ALO facilitated the development of a strategy and associated implementation plan to integrate occupational health services into the company’s existing global EHS program. We collected information and insights from multiple business functions (including senior operational leaders and HR/benefit executives) and collaborated with occupational health experts to identify best practices and designs, given past experiences (especially those related to pandemic response). The strategy and plan helped our client better understand the changes and commitments needed to integrate and elevate their occupational health program.
